Week one in my apartment

After the first week in my apartment, things are starting to come together:

Moved in, first week of work and hot-hot-hot!

I spent the first night in my new apartment on Monday 16th. Everything went pretty smoothly apart from the following issues:

- My shower exploded creating an upside-down shower effect, giving the ceiling an unwelcome washing.
- The bed I bought from IKEA has a damaged headboard. Yet ANOTHER trip there. Oh god.
- It is ridiculously warm here in Boston, and my apartment has no A/C. The first night was very uncomfortable.

On Tuesday 17th Brit borrowed an A/C unit from a friend, which has helped a lot. My bedroom has chilled down to a very comfortable temperature.

I’m still assembling IKEA furniture - almost there now. The place is starting to feel like home.

Wednesday 18th - I had my comcast cable installed today. Its pretty good. For $113 a month I get digital cable with all the 10,000,000 channels, 6 meg broadband and free phone calls at evening and weekends.

Thursday today - more IKEA furniture assembling. Almost unpacked all my stuff now.

I have an apartment! (Almost)

It took me one and a half days to find an apartment in Cambridge. I am pretty excited. It is off Mass. Avenue right between Porter Square and Harvard Square. Great location, it is a 1920’s building with hardwood floors and a proper old fireplace. Will post photos up as soon as I can.

Moving, just keep moving…

On Monday I moved from London, back to my parent’s house in Lancashire. It was a really weird feeling, the exact opposite of what I did almost six years ago when I packed everything into the back of an old van and headed south.

Nigel, a wiry old ‘man with a van’ helped me move. A decent guy, but I had my doubts about him when he almost crashed us into a huge truck on the motorway, and then hours later when we had a flat tyre he couldn’t remove the spare. After being on the road for six hours my short break involved standing up a bank of muddy ground at the side of the M6, praying that the fast travelling trucks wouldn’t veer into the side and splatter us into oblivion. The highway patrol guys came along though and helped us out.

So six years on, older and wiser with a lot of great experiences behind me, I sit now on the eve of another big journey. Better get my packing finished.
