Working with Carmen was a lot of fun the first time around, so we did another shoot. Her band Bodega Girls often uses US flags as backdrops on stage – so, inspired by Craig McDean’s military shot of Kate Moss, I setup this shot. We used poster paint to create the lines, and had to act fast before it dried up.
I setup a ring light on a tripod to take some snaps of friends at a recent rooftop party. A perfect bit of kit for this kind of thing.

Here I tried a couple of different lighting options: more dramatic, directional light to keep the black background dominant, and then a much softer, wider fill for a more beauty look. I also played a little with softer vs. sharper focal points by shifting the aperture on my 85mm lens.

This is the first self-portrait I’ve taken since I turned 31.
Recently back from her travels in sunny places, Martha and I got together for an impromptu shoot.

My pal James has been through a lot recently, so it was nice to spend some quality time with him and snap a quick portrait at this point in his life.
